RockChat Rewind with Joe Milliken
On this day in 1982, Stevie Nicks released her second solo album titled ‘The Wild Heart.’ Recorded on the Modern record label and produced by Jimmy Iovine, Gordon Perry and Tom Petty, Stevie recorded the tracks shortly after losing her best friend, Robin Anderson, and dedicated the album to her.
Several artists appeared on the album including Petty, Mick Fleetwood, Steve Lukather of Toto, and Prince, the song ‘Violet and Blue’ appeared on the movie soundtrack for ‘Against All Odds,’ and the song ‘Beauty and the Beast’ features a full string section conducted and arranged by Paul Buckmaster.
‘The Wild Heart’ was a huge success for Stevie, reaching number 5 on the Billboard album chart, where it remained for a full year. Also, three singles cracked the Hot 100 singles chart with ‘Stand Back’ reaching number 5, ‘If Anyone Falls’ reaching number 14, and ‘Nightbird’ reaching number 33. Nicks appeared on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Solid Gold,’ completed a successful national tour, and has claimed that it is her favorite solo album. ‘The Wild Heart’ has gone on to sell over two million copies worldwide.
